Airport Parking Directory - BOOK HERE
Stansted Airport is up the M11 from London, a journey of about 40 minutes by car from North London. Stansted calls itself the UK's 3rd airport, and it has some good car parks at the airport to back that up.
Short stay car parks are best if you are planning to see somebody depart or meeting someone who is coming back. It is the most economical solution if you are only going to stay for a few hours. The car park is only a few yards walk from the terminal. As far as prices are concerned, parking is free for the first 15 minutes, then costs £2.50 for the rest of the hour, and £4.50 for between one and two hours. Then the prices go up steadily until reaching £17.50 for between 18 and 24 hours. For any subsequent 24 hours or any part thereof, it will be another £17.50.
For longer periods, there is a mid stay car park at Stansted Airport called eparking. It is further away from the terminal than the short term parking, but there is a fast transfer service from car park to the terminal forecourt that takes only five minutes, which is half the time a transfer would take from a standard long stay car park. All you have to do is drive up to the carpark, insert your credit card into the machine and park, then when you return you insert the credit card again and the amount will be debited automatically from your card. This costs £12 a day and you can pre-book as well as turn up on the day.
Should you be away for a longer period, you should go to the longer stay car park (also called the holiday car park). This is situated outside the airport with a free transfer to the terminal which runs every eight minutes during peak periods. This bus journey take 15 minutes, but to be absolutely safe, passengers should allow 45 minutes in total for the transfer time from the moment you park to the moment you arrive at the terminal. You need to pre-book for long stay parking, and the minimum period for this is 5 days. The price of the long stay car park is £6.80 a day for between 1 and 5 days. For the 6th day and over it is £6.50 a day. These transactions include 30p which supports public transport initiatives.
As at most airports, parking for motorbikes and bicycles is free as long as you park in the decicated zone for it (zone D) in the long stay car park. Should you park anywhere not in the dedicated zone the airport may remove them.
